Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh International Award equips young people for life. It is the world’s leading youth achievement award. In 2015, more than 1.1 million young people from 140 different countries participated in this programme. Since the programme’s early launch 60 years ago, it has inspired millions of young people to transform their lives. We have a popular programme running in our secondary school from Year 10 to Year 13.
By creating opportunities for young people to develop skills, stay physically active, serve their communities, and experience adventure, the Duke of Edinburgh International Award can play a pivotal role in their development outside the classroom. It also allows their achievements to be consistently recognised around the world, giving young people a unique international accreditation of their experiences.
The Duke of Edinburgh International Award is transforming people, communities, and societies around the world. Young people who take part develop greater self-confidence and skills in areas such as communication, problem-solving and leadership, while increasing their resilience. This has a direct impact on their communities, with improvements in areas such as employment, health and well-being or educational achievements.
